Proposed Feature: Dungeon Mail

Postby sebsmith » Sat Sep 20, 2014 4:06 pm

So, I was thinking that it might be useful to put a button on the event listing page, which allowed players to send out a group e-mail to the other players booked on the event, to facilitate communication for player groups, and to avoid accidentally forgetting people etc. etc. It would also make it easier for refs to contact players before events and would help to bring about world peace...

In addition, we could have a monster version, so that monsters can send e-mails out before the event... And refs could contact monster groups more easily... And would give everybody a free kitten...

What I want to know is:

1) Do people think that this is a feature worth having?
2) Should it be locked down as a ref only feature? Should it be available to club members only? Should it be available to anybody booked onto the dungeon?

Discuss...

1) sounds a good feature =)
2) any chance you can allow individual users decide whether they want to receive such things from various user ranks?

So on the good side:
- It is in a members only section, so only members would be able to use it. This is good because I don't want random people having access to my personal e-mail (it's ok Seb, you don't come under the category of random person)
- It would save refs cutting and pasting e-mails

On the bad side:
- Not everybody uses the booking system...I have noticed some people don't ever use it but regularly turn up to events. So you are going to miss people off anyway.
- My e-mail is not connected to my web browser. Therefore it does not automatically e-mail stuff if you click on a link...so it wouldn't work for me
- The data privacy police might eat you for sharing personal details of club members...oh, you seem to be doing that already!

In balance, I think it would be a waste of effort that the web monkeys could better spend drinking beer or sorting other things like making sure everybody's character is able to access the forums so we can get some good chats going instead of relying on e-mail

If it were written into the website it could be written so that each recipient was mailed separately and the sender would never see your address.
Similarly if its written into the site it wouldn't require an email client to send
If people don't use the booking form and there for loose out because of this it would be there hardship and may encourage use (I am currently lax at using the form)
