For some reason I still can’t see the channel on the Discord site with the briefing for the event or who went, so this report lacks a little detail because of that.
Dreamlands: Dream of the End
The mission was twofold, primarily to meet with the Dreamlands Seer Lady Orlandia and ask her about what has caused the World Eater to appear, and secondly to look at potential trade negotiations with the Dreamlands. We also brought Sir Gilbert Hearnle back to the Dreamlands.
We arrived in the Dreamlands at Port Fog. The port and town are quite desolate with the population being barely a fifth of what it used to be. We stayed on the outskirts for several days.
The secondary objective, a trade deal, was largely dealt with the first night by myself. I met with Deadrick who was the Negotiator of Twilight, representing the Misty Lord, the leader of Port Fog. He said they represent any negotiation on behalf of the Dreamlands as a whole (though not the Flamelands).
As per my brief, I could only provide a firm offer around 1,000 tons of wheat each month for a year. Apparently the 5 Dragons per ton that the Marchant Lords of the Iron League was charging was a pirate surcharge on the wheat, he did not divulge what the total per ton payment they were making to the Iron League. After some discussion I offered them to pay 4 Dragons per ton for 12x 1,000 ton shipments over a year. I explained that that accounted for losing 2 shipments.
Apparently there was no exclusivity deal with the Iron League - this must have been something that the Iron League stated to keep others away.
He is taking this offer of 4 Dragons per ton for 12x 1,000 ton shipments over a year back to the Misty Lord. We did not have time to complete the discussions after completing our main mission. Although he did indicate that they would also be interested in the following from the Protectorate:
In terms of an opportunity to use our empty returning ships to bring back goods as part of a trade, he offered the following:
I left it open for further negotiations on partial payment with goods that we would want at reasonable rates. So the arrangement could be amended through the year. Depending on how it went, we could see if further future trade deals would be possible.
In terms of our previous attempts to engage diplomatically and for trade, these had all failed as each time we met it felt like the first time. Some kind of forgetfulness was affecting any recall or continuation of engagement.
Returning to the main mission…
We got a sense of something not being right about our planned visit to Lady Orlandia as one night we saw a brief vision of her whereby she said that we sought her in vein. This became evident when the planned travel to the Academy at Luminos arrived in a dark field where we were surrounded by Sealfor (sp?) and were brutally attacked.
It is clear that the Sealfor now have access to perverted nature power that was used against us. Once we dealt with them, we found that we were nearby a forest and land that was badly affected by sickness and putrid smells. We did not investigate at that time for fear of succumbing to the fumes. We found out shortly later that we were in fact 4 or more days from Luminos and therefore had not arrived anywhere near where we expected.
We encountered nightmarish creatures with multiple red illuminations on them, white beaked nose and spindly claw. As they died they seemed to embody the last creature they attacked. We came across some lumberjacks who were asleep, we woke them and returned them to their village. That village had protections from certain creatures - so we were able to exorcise the creatures from us. We had a later encounter with them - and the most effective way of dealing with them is to bind/weld them to the floor and kill them so they cannot impregnate themselves into another creature.
The story surrounding the village was interesting. There protection came from a nearby ancient ruin, although void bugs swarmed and lived there. One of the villagers, Tarn, had been taken by them - apparently they get more hungry around a full moon, which it was. We offered to retrieve him from the ruins the following day.
The following morning whilst I was casting my spells for the day a felt a vision of a creature called Jabberkai with an autumnal mantle saying: ‘I am the river, I am the beginning and the end’, and that he could feel the taint on the land. The vision was placed in a rocky glade with grey streaked clouds darkening the sky.
We visited the ancient ruins, killed many void bugs, solved riddles as we went into the crypts and then killed the fearsome void bug queen that seemed to grow stronger as she drained life from any of those she successfully hit.
The village was delighted with our endeavour and we have created a positive name for the Protectorate there.
As we travelled on we came across Harn the Hunted, an aspect of nature, Druid with a bear. He gave us a box that would show us our true natures. When one of the Scrogres used it - it seemed to separate out their squirrel and ogre forms - we were left with the squirrel form!
We then came across a Lt Commander Nointz and a sizeable crew from the Cleansing Flame and Temple of the Sacred Flames sent by Lady Orlandi to cleans the area of evil. Despite explaining we were also looking to see Lady Orlandia, they took dimly to one of our party members having a link with the Evil sphere and instigate a fight. We suspect, afterwards, that it was another ploy by Lady Orlandia to stop our progress.
The fight was tough the with one of the party left on the ground with the Lt Commander, even the split Scrogre Ogre turned up! A negotiated return of that member of the party was achieved (sorry can’t remember names).
Jabberkai then appeared, he has previously met Yari, another member of the Protectorate. He is a servant of flame and time and seeks to balance the books. He said the Sphere of Dreams is rising, and tainting the land as it does so. He offered to help and transported us to an outpost of the Academy at Luminos. We were greated by Carmichael and the folk at the outpost who fed us. This is where the nightmarish creatures appeared again until we killed them. The Reverend Mother also turned up and agreed to help us and was pleased to hear that we had helped on of the villages with the void bugs.
We saw a vision whilst we were there of what appeared to be the land of the Dreamlands being attacked and destroyed by a foul being.
After the meal one of the staff admitted that he had been asked to poison our food and leave a candle out for others to come and attack us. We were a little slow in preparing and although we tried to lay a decoy, we had been observed. So ensued another tough fight with some more Sealfor.
The following day we heard that Sealfor were looking for us again, so we departed promptly and were chased through the woods until we found a point we wanted to use to fight them. This was another tough combat, with several of the party going down and the party being split up. A member of the Light turned up and transported several of us to safety near the Ivory Tower, where Lady Orlandia was supposed to be. The remainder of the party managed to parley with the Knight of the Sealfor who realised they had been duped by Lady Orlandia to exceed their agreed area of travel - breaking their word. So they would no longer chase us that day. Clearly Lady Orlandia had again tried to thwart our journey.
Once the party was re-united, we prepared ourselves and travelled by Light to the place where Lady Orlandia was. We tried a Knightly Parley but Lady Orlandia ordered her people to attack us. We prevailed without having to kill all of her supporters. She tried to avoid our questions. The following came out. The Dreamlands lands are a living organism, she or it may have summoned the World Eater, which is attacking the lands of the Dreamlands. The Dreamland people seem resigned to their fate, and Lady Orlandia in particular seems to be almost inviting in the end for them.
Overall we need to be aware that:
